Nyerere National Park

OVERVIEW

This is the Africa’s Largest National Park. The accessibility of the Park, richness of game and plethora of activities on offer also make it one of Tanzania’s most favoured safari destinations.
A short flight from Dar 0r Arusha, the Nyerere National Park covers 30’893sq.km of land in southern Tanzania. This huge expanse encompasses a variety of habitats, from classic grassy plains and open woodland, to mountains, riverine forests and hot springs.

Weaving a path through the reserve, the Rufiji River is a vital water source that filters through to a labyrinth of lakes, swamps and streams. These watering holes are irresistible magnets to wildlife and provide exceptional encounters. Elephant, giraffe, antelope, crocodile, hippo and wild dog are all present, as well as Africa’s largest buffalo and lion population. The unique ecosystem of the Nyerere National park also supports over 400 different bird species, from herons to vibrantly coloured water birds.

Enchanting boat trips on the river, riveting bush walks and traditional game drives are just a few experiences to be had. Some camps also organise fly-camping, which involves sleeping out in the heart of the bush in a small, mobile camp.
